Arua Hill Sports Club returned to winning ways in the Startimes Uganda Premier League with a 2-1 victory over UPDF FC at Barifa Stadium on Saturday aftertoon.

Having registered back-to-back draws, the Leopards got back on track with an impressive victory over UPDF FC courtesy of goals from Gadafi Wahab and super substitute Rashid Kawawa.

Ivan Ahimbisibwe bagged the only goal for UPDF FC as they were condemned to their 5th defeat of the campaign by Arua Hill Sports Club.

The Kongolo Boys started the better side as they controlled the proceedings in the opening 10 minutes.

Alfred Leku missed to break the deadlock for the hosts with a low shot following a delivery from Gadafi Gadinho just a minute from kick off.

Two minutes later Allan Mugalu came close to opening the lead for the Kongolo Boys but his header from Atendele Geriga’s delivery went over the cross bar.

Kigozi Ambrose looked to break the lead for the visitors but his shot from a free-kick was well punched by Leopards’ custodian Rogers Omedwa in the 5 minutes.

This was followed by a sustained period of dominance from Arua Hill Sports Club who went in search of an opener.

And the deadlock was broken in the 11 minutes by Gadafi Wahab who brilliantly converted from a free-kick just outside the box area after Allan Mugalu was pulled down by Mbaziirz Simon for a 1-0 lead.

But the visitors hit back two minutes later to level matters as Ivan Ahimbisibwe tapped home Frank Iga’s cross for a 1-1 draw.

Arua Hill Sports Club dominated the remaining minutes of the first stanza with Leku missing to put the hosts ahead after his tap was well taken by UPDF FC custodian Bwete Brian to settle for a 1-1 draw in the break.

After the break UPDF started on a high note but Leopards defense remained resolute in limiting the threats posed by the visitors with Rashid Toha, Bright Vuni and Richard Matovu doing some great work to prevent the Army sides.

However the hosts regained their dominance and were eventually rewarded with a goal when super substitute Rashid Kawawa tapped home the winner with his first touch after replacing Ivan Eyam off Leku’s cross in the 67 minutes as Arua Hill SC held on to settle for a 2-1 win over UPDF FC.

Victory means Arua Hill Sports Club leapfrog UPDF FC in the 6th place on the Startimes Uganda Premier League standings with 18 points from 11 games.
