A highly contested encounter saw us come from a goal down to secure our second successive win and extend our unbeaten run to ten games. A chilly atmosphere with rains pouring saw us start the game on a high and pressed the opposition in their half for the opening minutes.
Rashid Kawawa was the first to test the hands of Martin Elungat in goal as the Mbarara City custodian collected the shot. Eyamu came closer to goal but fired his shot over the bar from a very close range. The opposition got a set piece, and from the rebound, a shot was fired and Bright Vuni fell victim to a handball. A penalty was awarded. Okwalinga stepped up and converted past Anyama to send the Ankole Lions into the lead.
The fight was on for a comeback and the boys continued pressing for an equaliser. Kawawa got another chance and fired a neat low shot and Elungat again fumbled to make a save. On the 32nd minute, Mugalu neatly beat his marker and played in Eyamu who tucked it home to tie the game at one all.
The second half continued same way and tempo as the first and both teams kept pressing for a winner. Early subs saw Kawawa make way for Sekamatte and Eyamu make way for Maduka. The Ankole lions held on as they repelled all the attacks from the Kongolo boys. And on the 83rd minute, it would only take an Alfred Leku moment of magic to send the lions parking. He picked up a rebound in the middle of the park and fired a belter of a shot which finally beat the goalkeeper to complete the comeback. His eleventh goal of the season and three in the last two games. The boys held on to the lead till full time.
The win sends us straight to 46 points and level on points with fourth placed Bul FC and just three points behind URA FC. Next up is the Arua derby.
